Sean’s Take-
Seth Rogen is a SUPER funny guy. However, with great humor, comes great responsibility. This time our super comedian dropped the ball. I had high hopes and expectations and this movie simply did not deliver. Sure, this movie has all the ingredients necessary to be successful. It has the superhero gadgets, bulletproof cars, and of course the bro-mance element that Seth Rogen has become known for. Yet this time each of these ingredients were wholly underwhelming.
Throughout the movie Seth Rogen seemed to be wishing he was still in Pineapple Express. In fact, I found myself wishing the same thing. In a movie that touted itself as "action/comedy" it seemed to be in need of an extra dose of both. Seth Rogen has done Action/Comedy before. He's succeeded before. Not this time. Go rent Pineapple Express and get more bang for your buck.
Laura’s Take-
The Green Hornet is a nice, feel good movie that's an easy watch, though it's not very memorable, so don't expect to be quoting hilarious lines from it for days and weeks to come. It was humorous enough to pass a decent amount of chuckles from myself, and fall on my spectrum as worthy of being called a comedy.
In retrospect, the plot has been told before. Although, I must say, it told the story in a very effective way; there was a perfect amount of suspense. It didn't give anything away too early or leave you wondering and confused for most of it. As I saw the plot unraveling and wrapping up, I was very satisfied with the speed. I also greatly enjoyed the directing. It had a very comic book feel with stylized, colorful fighting scenes and special effects. The sets and costumes were all very well designed, though I am still left wondering why a millionaire chooses to sleep on what looks like a fold out couch in the middle of a lavish room. Theories?
